Asbestos safety
Your safety is our top priority. We are committed to protecting everyone in our properties from the risks of asbestos. This guide explains how we manage asbestos and what you need to know to stay safe.
What is asbestos?
Asbestos is a material that was used in building construction before 2000. If disturbed, it can release harmful fibres that can be dangerous when inhaled. However, asbestos is not harmful if left undisturbed.
What you need to know
Asbestos surveys
We carry out asbestos surveys in our properties to identify where asbestos is located. These surveys are done by licensed professionals.
Asbestos register
We maintain a record of where asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are in our properties. This helps us manage the risk.
Risk management
If asbestos is found, we will assess the risk and take the necessary actions, such as sealing it, removing it, or monitoring its condition.
Repairs & maintenance
Before any repair or maintenance work, we check our asbestos records. If no records exist, we will carry out a survey to ensure safety.
What you can do
Don’t disturb asbestos:
Asbestos is only dangerous when disturbed. If you think there is asbestos in your home, do not try to remove or disturb it yourself.
Report concerns:
If you notice any damage to materials you believe might contain asbestos, report it to us immediately. We will assess the situation and take appropriate action.
Our commitment to you
Licensed Contractors:
We only use licensed professionals to handle asbestos.
Keeping you informed:
We will provide you with information and advice about asbestos, including leaflets and updates on our website.
Training:
Our staff and contractors receive asbestos awareness training, so they know how to keep you safe.
Emergency situations:
In the unlikely event that asbestos is accidentally damaged, we have an emergency process in place. We will act quickly to contain the situation and ensure your safety.
