Electrical safety
Your safety is our priority. We are committed to ensuring that all electrical installations in our homes are safe, compliant with UK regulations, and well-maintained. Here’s what you need to know about our electrical safety practices.
Our promise to you:
Safety first:
We inspect and maintain all electrical installations in your home to ensure they are safe and working properly.
Certified professionals:
Only certified and qualified electricians will carry out inspections and repairs in your home.
Prompt action:
If you report any electrical issues, we will respond quickly and take appropriate action to fix the problem.
Communication:
We will keep you informed about any electrical safety checks or work being carried out and address any concerns you may have.
What you can expect:
Electrical safety checks:
We will carry out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) at least every 5 years, or more frequently if needed.
Before you move in:
If you’re moving into a new home, we ensure that all electrical systems are checked and safe before you arrive.
Smoke alarms:
We will repair or replace faulty hardwired smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors if notified or during your annual gas inspection.
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT):
We test all portable IDS-provided appliances to ensure they’re safe to use.
What happens if we find an issue:
If there’s a serious electrical fault, we will fix it immediately or shut down the system until it can be repaired. For less urgent issues, we will book an appointment with you to fix the problem within a reasonable time. If more information is needed, we will conduct further tests to ensure the issue is resolved safely.
How we communicate with you:
You will be informed about upcoming inspections or repairs, and we are always available to discuss any concerns you may have. We will provide electrical safety information in accessible formats and languages to meet everyone’s needs. We offer additional help for vulnerable residents who may not fully understand the importance of electrical safety, ensuring that everyone stays safe.
Your responsibilities:
Please cooperate when we need to carry out essential safety checks. If access is denied, we may need to take further action to ensure your safety. If you notice any electrical issues or faults, or if something doesn’t seem right in your home, let us know as soon as possible. We are here to help keep you safe.
